Select Box Lookup

A very common topic I come across is the desire to narrow in on an element in a select box using more information than just the first letter of the string. If you type in "t", you'll go to the first element that starts with "t". If you then type "e", instead of going to the first element that starts with "te" you jump to the first element that starts with "e". This is the nature of the SELECT box. HTML form elements can be limited.

A work-around is to add a text box and a button. The user can type in the beginning sub-string they are looking for and click the button. The first element that starts with that string will automatically be selected in the select box. This can be very handy for select boxes with many, many elements.

The example below uses a select box pre-populated with the 50 states.
